Prinivil (generic name: lisinopril; brand names include: Cipril / Carace / ES / Fibsol / Linvas / Lipril / Lisoril / Tensopril / Zestril / Hipril / Carace) is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.

Prinivil is used for the treatment of:

hypertension (high blood pressure);
congestive heart failure in combination with other medicines;
acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), to prevent the subsequent development of left ventricular dysfunction or heart failure and to improve survival.

Prinivil works by relaxing blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure. The blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.

Recommendations

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Prinivil exactly as directed.

Take Prinivil by mouth with or without food. Prinivil is usually taken once a day. Take Prinivil at approximately the same time each day.

Do not stop taking Prinivil without talking to your doctor.

If you miss a dose of Prinivil, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Store Prinivil at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture.

Precautions

Before taking Prinivil, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you have kidney or liver disease;
you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or you are breast-feeding.
